10 Things You need before you set sail.
October 12, 2022
Captain, you are off to sea - or maybe just the bay or down the river. Here's a public service reminder of the basic 10 things you should always have on board.
- License and Registration - for obvious reasons
- Life Jackets for you and your passengers.
- Fire Extinguishers - when these is a motor involved, you can't be too careful. For larger crafts, be sure to install and regularly check smoke detectors.
- Visual Distress Signals and Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) When you are going far from shore, it's a good idea to be prepared with fail-safe search and rescue lights like the ACR Firefly PRO WATERBUG SOLAS
- Flashlight. You can't go wrong by keeping a Princeton Tec on hand.
- Anchor and Rode- kind of like peanut butter and jelly.
- First Aid Kit - basic for quick trips to loaded Adventure Medical kits, let's face it- shit happens.
- Rain Gear- listen to your mom on this one. Pack you First Watch or Onyx jackets (and pants) on your expedition.
Here's a great story about how an ACR EPIBD saved 7 lives.
